Yonis Abdulkadir hassan

I am a young community leader committed to creating safe, supportive spaces for youth and families in my community. Through my work, I have helped organize programs that focus on connection, mentorship, wellness, and opportunity, especially for young people in underserved neighborhoods. I care deeply about giving back, building strong relationships, and creating initiatives that make a real difference. My goal is to continue leading with purpose, inspiring others, and helping my community grow stronger together.

Leadership through sports

8-week basketball and mentorship program for youth ages 15–25 in the Toronto/GTA. Each week combines skill-building, structured runs, and guidance focused on confidence, discipline, and leadership. The program features 8 guest speakers who share real-life lessons and motivation, helping participants grow on and off the court. Mentorship creates a safe, positive space where youth build community, mindset, and momentum.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Over 8 weeks, the program runs one weekly session combining a 2-hour basketball workout and scrimmage with mentorship and an inspiring guest speaker. Youth ages 15–25 build skills, confidence, and discipline through structured drills, team play, and weekly life lessons in a safe, supportive environment.

      Project Impact

The project creates a consistent, safe space where youth ages 15–25 stay active, build confidence, and connect with positive mentors. Through weekly basketball sessions and 8 guest speakers, participants strengthen discipline, teamwork, and leadership. The program builds community, reduces isolation, and helps youth leave with motivation, new relationships, and practical life lessons they can apply beyond the court.

      Project Mission

The mission is to use basketball to unite and develop youth ages 15–25 through mentorship, structure, and positive role models. Over 8 weeks, the program builds confidence, discipline, leadership, and community connection through weekly sessions and 8 guest speakers. Goals are to keep youth active, strengthen mindset, and create supportive relationships that continue beyond the program.

      Project Team

Two-person team leading an 8-week youth basketball mentorship program with guest speakers.
