Yasmine Omar

I’m a young creative and community leader based in Toronto, working at the intersection of art, storytelling, and youth engagement. Through photography, film, and programming, I create spaces where young people can express themselves, build confidence, and develop real creative skills. I co-founded initiatives focused on making art more accessible in underserved communities, and I’m passionate about using creativity as a tool for connection and impact. Whether I’m teaching, directing, or collaborating, my goal is always to empower others to see value in their voice and their story.

Frame the Future

My Sprout project is a youth creative program focused on making photography and videography accessible in underserved communities. Through hands-on workshops, participants learn visual storytelling, camera basics, and creative direction while building confidence in their voice. The program empowers youth to express themselves and create meaningful work, ending with a final photo series or short video they can be proud of.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

My project runs as a drop-in creative program where youth can join freely and learn photography and videography through hands-on sessions. I’ll be working closely with the community to make it happen, creating a welcoming space for young people to explore storytelling, build skills, and express themselves at their own pace.

      Project Impact

The project creates a safe, accessible space for youth to explore creativity, build confidence, and develop practical skills in photography and videography. By working closely with the community, it fosters connection, mentorship, and a sense of belonging. Participants leave with stronger self-expression, new creative tools, and tangible work that reflects their voice and perspective.

      Project Mission

The mission of this project is to empower youth through accessible, hands-on creative education in photography and videography. By working with the community, it aims to create a supportive space where young people can build confidence, develop their voice, and use storytelling as a tool for self-expression and connection.

      Project Team

This project is led independently, with a strong emphasis on community collaboration. While I oversee the program and its direction, I’ll be inviting local creatives from the community to lead guest workshops and share their skills and experiences. This approach brings diverse perspectives into the space, exposing youth to different creative paths while building meaningful connections between participants and working artists.
