Shirley Li
I’m a medical student who cares deeply about people and the communities around me. Growing up, I often found myself stepping into roles of responsibility, which shaped how I show up for others—with empathy, calmness, and a willingness to help. Starting Train to Save came from a simple but important realization: in emergencies, the difference between panic and action can save a life. I want people to feel confident stepping in, not standing by. I’m still learning, but I’m driven by the hope of making support and lifesaving skills more accessible in everyday communities.
Train To Save
Train to Save is a community-based initiative that provides accessible, hands-on first aid and CPR training to everyday people. It aims to empower individuals with the confidence and skills to respond effectively in emergencies, especially in situations where immediate action can save lives. By focusing on practical, low-barrier education, the project seeks to make lifesaving knowledge more widely available and foster a culture of preparedness and care within local communities.
About this Project

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Train to Save runs short, hands-on workshops in community spaces over a 6–8 week period. Sessions teach CPR, AED use, and basic first aid through guided practice and scenarios. Participants leave with practical skills, simple take-home materials, and the confidence to respond in real-life emergencies.
Project Impact
Train to Save equips community members with the confidence and skills to act in emergencies, turning bystanders into responders. By lowering barriers to first aid education, it strengthens community safety, encourages collective responsibility, and creates a ripple effect as participants share knowledge with others.
Project Mission
Train to Save aims to make lifesaving skills accessible, approachable, and practical for everyone. Its goal is to empower individuals with the confidence to act in emergencies, reduce hesitation in critical moments, and build safer, more connected communities where people are prepared to help one another.
