Cree Visual Cards Arts & Culture

The Cree Visual Card project is a resource tool that help Indigenous families, particularly First Nation's Plains and Woodland Cree people. This project was aimed to guide Cree families in learning the language at home or for educators to have an extra resource of the language in school.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

  • Indigenous Peoples

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

  • SDG 3: Good health and Well-being

How the project works

Cree Visual Cards feature Cree words with QR codes that link to a YouTube video that teaches the correct pronunciation of the word. Through this resource, families can implement the language in their homes with the hopes of carrying down the knowledge.

Project Impact

Many have lost their language due to governmental policies. Many did not carry and pass down their languages to their children, therefore, losing the language. Cree Visual Cards has had a profound impact in revitalizing the Cree language for the Cree community. Through this project, Sheila was able to connect with many people around the prairies.

Project Mission

The mission of Cree Visual Cards is to proactively equip families and educators in the Cree community with resources to revitalize Cree language and culture.

Project Team

Sheila is currently her own team but in the future, she hopes to have more involvement with others.
