Rachel Davis
I am a Master's student in Public Issues Anthropology at the University of Guelph, and I am working as a teaching assistant. My thesis research is about the effect of climate change on youth mental health, especially for racialized minorities. I am interested in using community-engaged and arts based methods to amplify youth voices in decisions that affect their lives.
Look around, look within
"Look around, look within" is an event where youth can rekindle or ignite their relationship with nature. There will be a mindfulness walk, where participants will be prompted to deeply observe and experience nature with their senses and emotions. Next, participants will be invited to relax indoors with refreshments and creative expression inspired by their time in nature.
About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
“Look around, look within” is an event series hosted in Toronto in fall and winter with a focus on mindfulness, creativity, and nature appreciation.
Project Impact
To ensure youth remain motivated to address urgent environmental crises, it is essential to create an environment where they can cultivate a strong connection to nature and build community. By participating in the event, youth will have an opportunity for self reflection, community building, and connecting with nature which can enhance their well-being and motivation to protect the environment.
Project Mission
Hosting in person events that give youth an opportunity to build and enhance meaningful connections with nature, themselves, and each other.
Project Team
The project will require a design and advertising team member to help promote the event and design aesthetically pleasing resources. There will also be advisors who will provide feedback on my research findings and event concept to ensure goals are reached.
