Muhammad Abdullah Qureshi
I’m a medical student passionate about community health and grassroots advocacy. Growing up in Saskatoon, I’ve seen how small, locally driven initiatives can create real, lasting impact. As a young community leader, I’ve led projects focused on sustainability, public health education, and health equity. I believe in meeting people where they are, whether that’s on a running trail, in a classroom, or at a festival, and making health more accessible. Through initiatives like Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan, I’m working alongside peers to empower communities with knowledge and resources that promote lifelong wellness. I’m excited to keep learning, collaborating, and building healthier futures through creativity, compassion, and collective action.
Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan
Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan is a youth-led public health initiative aiming to reduce the risk of skin cancer by increasing access to free sunscreen and sun safety education. The project installs dispensers at high-traffic outdoor events and public spaces across Saskatchewan while engaging the public through presentations, giveaways, and interactive outreach. By combining accessibility with awareness, Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan empowers communities to build lifelong sun safety habits and fosters a culture of prevention and health equity.
About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan installs free sunscreen dispensers and delivers sun safety education at outdoor events and schools across Saskatchewan from June to September every year. The team provides chapsticks, stickers, and presentations while collecting feedback through QR surveys to assess impact and expand outreach in public spaces.
Project Impact
Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan is increasing access to sunscreen and improving public understanding of sun safety across Saskatchewan. Early feedback from community surveys shows that many attendees used sunscreen for the first time at our dispensers and gained new knowledge about UV protection, highlighting the project’s effectiveness in promoting preventative health and reducing future skin cancer risk.
Project Mission
Sunny and Safe Saskatchewan’s mission is to promote sun safety and health equity by making sunscreen and education accessible to everyone. Our goals are to reduce the risk of skin cancer, empower communities with preventative health knowledge, and build sustainable partnerships to install sunscreen dispensers in schools, trails, and public events across the province.
