Mohamud Abdullahi Mohamed

Mohamud Mohamed is an IT student and community builder from Toronto's Jane and Finch neighbourhood. Currently completing his Information Technology degree at York University, Mohamud brings hands-on experience in program facilitation, mentorship, and community storytelling. He has led youth programming at Toronto Community Housing, served as a mentor at Success Beyond Limits, and co-founded 4TheWestEnd, a Toronto nonprofit arts initiative for youth in the WestEnd of Toronto. His creative work has centred on representation, cultural identity, and amplifying underrepresented voices. Through the Sprout Ideas Fellowship, Mohamud developed Bridge to IT, a program designed to remove the financial barrier stopping equity-deserving youth from earning their first IT certification. Rooted in his own experience navigating limited resources and unclear pathways, he is committed to creating practical opportunities that turn potential into real economic outcomes for young people in his community.

Bridge To IT

Bridge to IT is a four-session program helping six equity-deserving Toronto youth earn the CCNA certification. The program covers networking fundamentals, troubleshooting, security basics, and exam strategy, with a guest IT instructor providing hands-on coaching. Every active learner receives a fully funded exam voucher, transit support, and meals to remove access barriers. Follow-ups at 10 and 30 days track exam bookings and passes. Built for youth who have the drive but not the resources.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Bridge to IT runs four two-hour sessions over two weeks covering Network+ fundamentals, troubleshooting, security, and exam strategy. Six youth receive funded exam vouchers, transit support, and meals. A guest IT instructor coaches throughout. Learners book their exam before the final session ends.

      Project Impact

Bridge to IT directly removes the cost barrier stopping motivated youth from entering tech. Six equity-deserving learners receive fully funded CCNA exam vouchers, structured prep, and hands-on coaching. Every participant leaves with a booked exam date and a real shot at employment.

      Project Mission

Our mission is to provide equity-deserving Toronto youth with the knowledge, support, and funded access needed to earn the Cisco CCNA certification. By removing financial and logistical barriers we create a clear pathway from interest in tech to a recognized industry credential.

      Project Team

Led by a Toronto youth worker, IT student, and community builder.
