The program offers a safe and inclusive space for Bengali youth to explore their identity, excel academically, and connect with mentors who share their background. By combining academic support with cultural education, Bengali Youth Connect inspires the next generation to embrace their heritage and become active contributors to society.
About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
We held a Sunday school weekly where we have Bangla classes, tutoring, cultural classes, and other leadership sessions as well as games and crafts. We did this to increase cultural awareness and connect Bengali-Canadian youth to their roots while also uplifting them with their studies and encouraging them to be involved within their communities.
Project Impact
The impact achieved by the project has been extremely positive. Children who initially had no knowledge of the Bangla language can now write various words and create short sentences, indicating remarkable progress in their language skills. Beyond language acquisition, the project has expanded their vocabulary and deepened their understanding of Bangla culture. Furthermore, the project has successfully empowered young Bengali individuals, helping them overcome academic challenges and fostering personal growth. It has also strengthened family engagement and pride within the community. Overall, the project achieved its goals of academic and cultural empowerment for the young participants while fostering a sense of connection and pride within the Bengali-Canadian community.
Project Mission
Bengali Youth Connect strives to empower and connect young Bengalis to create positive change in their communities. We aim to provide a platform for young people to develop leadership skills, build meaningful relationships, and take action on issues that matter to them.
