Luca Di Vincenzo
During my studies at the University of Toronto, where I majored in philosophy and sociology, I came to understand the vital importance of a quality education. More specifically, I learned that it is of serious moral, individual, and economic importance, especially for K-12 students, that education equips young people with knowledge, habits, and skills that will benefit them throughout their lives and future endeavours. The community work I have conducted reflects these values. Through years of coaching soccer at the Oakville Soccer Club and working as a summer camp counsellor at the YMCA, I’ve learned how to motivate, mentor, and connect with youth from diverse backgrounds. I also co-led the YESHI program, bringing leadership- and collaboration-building activities into classrooms. All these experiences have served to strengthen my commitment to empowering students through quality education and fostering lifelong personal and societal growth.
Thrive5
Thrive5 delivers quick, engaging, and interactive weekly presentations to classrooms over 5 sessions, covering healthy sleep, financial literacy, nutrition, leadership or parenting skills, and responsible technology use. Each session begins with an interactive educational presentation, followed by a group activity where students compete for points for prizes, gamifying learning and boosting engagement. Designed to fill key gaps in the K–12 curriculum, Thrive5 ensures students gain practical knowledge, skills, and habits that they can apply meaningfully throughout their lives and future endeavours.
About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Over the course of a school semester, Thrive5 delivers five sessions, covering healthy sleep, financial literacy, nutrition, leadership or parenting skills, and responsible technology use. Each begins with a 15–25 minute presentation followed by a 35–45 minute group activity related to the session topic. During each activity, students will compete to earn points for their group, with top groups winning medals. This model gamifies learning, making learning fun, impactful, and engaging.
Project Impact
Thrive5 equips students with practical life skills often missing from the K–12 curriculum, fostering healthier habits and greater confidence. By combining interactive learning with friendly competition, it increases engagement, teamwork, and retention, ultimately empowering students to apply these lessons meaningfully in school, at home, and throughout their lives.
Project Mission
Thrive5’s mission is to deliver quick, engaging presentations with activities that equip students with essential life skills in sleep, parenting, finances, nutrition, and technology use. Its goals are to enhance student knowledge in real-world topics, fill curriculum gaps, and foster lifelong habits through tailored, interactive sessions across multiple classrooms and schools within one school term.
Project Team
Thrive5’s team includes coordinators, presenters, a social media lead, and volunteers to support classroom activities.
