Lok Man Wong
Lokman started knitting and sewing two years ago. After participating in her first knitting club, she started a crafting society at her university to provide a safe and accessible space for students to create, hence inspiring her to take this passion to the next level with the support of the Sprout Fellowship. She has held other community leadership roles in city/non-profit advisory boards, university residence, and within the cadet program.
Hat Knitting for (Mental) Health
Hat Knitting for (Mental) Health is a one-day workshop for un(der)employed recent graduates to learn how to knit a hat. Participants will meet others who are experiencing similar frustrations with securing employment while learning how to knit as a form of stress relief. Along with learning a new skill, participants will walk away with a sense of empowerment and community.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Participants will learn to knit in a one-day workshop by creating a knitted swatch, with help from experienced knitters. They will gain the skills necessary to follow a pattern, cast-on stitches, knit, purl, decrease stitches, and cast-off stitches. With guidance, they will start knitting their hat. After the workshop, video resources and experts will be available to assist with any knitting questions as participants finish the hat.
Project Impact
The project aims to empower un(der)employed recent graduates through skill-building while providing an avenue for stress relief. We hope to alleviate financial and knowledge barriers to entry to knitting by providing all materials and resources.
