Laura Colford
Laura is a Halifax-based youth interested in health promotion, community engagement, and community well-being. She believes that social connection is a key part of health and sees arts and creative expression as powerful ways to bring people together. Laura is particularly interested in how creativity can foster community, belonging, and wellbeing. Laura has previously led a community initiative that aimed to increase access to creative materials, and has facilitated community sewing and mending workshops aiming to support skill-sharing and sustainability. Laura enjoys sewing and upcycling clothing, dancing, and spending time in community, and she hopes to create welcoming spaces where people can connect, learn, and create together.
The Call: Creative Community Building Events in Halifax
“The Call: Creative Community Building Events in Halifax” is a series of free, accessible events designed to bring young people together through arts, culture, and shared experiences. Paired with an online platform, podcast, and social media, the project meets youth in the digital spaces they already spend time in and invites them into in-person community spaces that they can relate to and connect with. By blending online connection with in-person gatherings, the goal is to spark creativity, build friendships, and create spaces where young people can participate and feel a part of something bigger.
