Kuulo (Kullene) Abdushekur
My name is Kuulo (I go by Kullene), and I’m a young community leader grounded in culture, care, and collective responsibility. My work focuses on community-building and creating safe, welcoming spaces for Oromo youth to connect, express themselves, and grow together. I believe strong communities are built through intentional relationships, storytelling, and shared healing, not just programming. Through arts, dialogue, and youth-led initiatives, I support leadership development, wellness, and a sense of belonging, with the goal of strengthening community ties and investing in people for the long term.
Oromiyaa Night II: In Conversation
Oromiyaa Night II: In Conversation is a community event that brings Oromo youth together through dialogue and art. Rooted in shared identity and lived experience, the event creates a welcoming space for reflection, expression, and connection. By centring conversation and creativity, it uses collective storytelling and artistic expression as tools for healing, relationship-building, and strengthening community bonds.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Oromiyaa Night II: In Conversation is a one-day, second iteration of the original Oromiyaa Night. Reimagined on a smaller scale and centered on dialogue, the event includes a film and exhibit screening followed by a facilitated panel and community conversation exploring culture, identity, and the Oromo diaspora.
Project Impact
The project creates space for meaningful conversations around important and often overlooked topics, opening the floor for community-centered dialogue. By grounding discussions in care and shared understanding, it strengthens connection, encourages reflection, and allows these ideas to tangibly inform more thoughtful, supportive outcomes for the Oromo community.
Project Mission
The mission of the project is to bring Oromo youth together through dialogue and creative expression to foster connection, reflection, and mutual understanding. By centering lived experience and culture, the project aims to strengthen community bonds, encourage open conversation, and support collective healing and growth within the Oromo diaspora.
Project Team
A group of 15 friends ( all of Oromo decent, and from Toronto) , who met through The Sena Project and came together to create a community event.
