Kay Trevick is the creator and leader of The Next Lens Project. Kay is passionate about mental health advocacy, increasing the accessibility of art in her community and nurturing creativity in the next generation of storytellers.

The Next Lens Project

The Next Lens Project is a series of free film workshops that empower girls 10-17 by giving them tools to create media in a safe space with a focus on using storytelling as a tool for mental health. The workshops will provide them with the skills, equipment and knowledge to express themselves through filmmaking and process their emotions in a healthy and creative way. Participants will leave the workshop feeling seen and heard with the skills to tell their own stories and own their narratives.

      How the project works

The Next Lens Project is a series of free film workshops that empower girls 10-17 by giving them tools to create media in a safe space with a focus on using storytelling as a tool for mental health. The workshops will provide them with the skills and equipment to express themselves through filmmaking, allow them process their emotions in a creative way and give them a place to feel seen and heard.

      Project Impact

The Next Lens Project was created to address the mental health issues facing young people from an increasing presence of technology and time spent online during their development. Our workshops give them a place to use technology to safely process their emotions, learn new skills, give them a sense of satisfaction and provide them with a new community.

      Project Mission

With Canada’s strained public mental health system and frequently inaccessible resources, The Next Lens Project will provide youth an alternative way to process their emotions in a healthy way and give them a safe space to feel seen and heard. We will help the next generation of storytellers use technology as a positive tool to reclaim their stories.

      Project Team

Our team is made up of professionals working in psychology, education, film and storytelling.
