Jordyn Weddell

I have been a community leader in many different projects- I mostly spend my time working with marginalized communities such as 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, Indigenous communities, Newcomers, and university students. My focus is on mental health as it relates to different communities and ways of raising awareness, educating, reducing stigma, and bridging gaps between access to professionals and communities.

Mindful Connections: A Community Wellness Series

Mindful Connections: A Community Wellness Series aims to create a stigma-free environment for mental health support. This initiative includes three key events: Gender Euphoria - Hair and Nails Event, Indigenous Wellness Event, and a Newcomer Mental Health Forum. By partnering with local organizations and mental health professionals, the series fosters community resilience, enhances access to resources, and promotes education and awareness. The goal is to build a supportive network that prioritizes mental well-being for all.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

The project includes three main events: the Indigenous Wellness Ceremony (sunrise ceremony, talking circle, sweat lodge), the Gender Euphoria Event (hair styling and cuts), and the Newcomer Mental Health Forum (presentation and resource discussion). These events will take place sequentially from September to October.

      Project Impact

Hosting our wellness series will have a profound impact on community members. The Gender Euphoria Hair and Nails Event will boost self-confidence and overall well-being by affirming individual identities. The Indigenous Wellness Event aims to create a safe space for sharing and relating to mental health struggles, fostering a sense of connection and support. The Newcomer Mental Health Forum will equip newcomers with essential resources and knowledge to navigate mental health challenges, improving their overall integration and well-being.

      Project Mission

Our mission is to foster a healthier, more informed community by creating a network of partners and offering accessible programs like Gender Euphoria Hair and Nails, the Newcomer Mental Health Forum, and Indigenous wellness events. Goals include reducing mental health stigma, enhancing resource accessibility, and promoting education and collaboration among community members.

      Project Team

Our team includes undergraduates, graduate students, and work professionals, combining diverse perspectives and expertise.
