Jessica Sinha

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I served on the Science Student Caucus, advocating for inclusive academic policies. Recognizing disparities in student experiences, my team and I created an anonymous survey to highlight concerns from underrepresented groups, especially lower-income students. We presented the results to faculty, leading to reforms such as extended deadlines and take-home exams. These experiences taught me how to amplify marginalized voices and translate advocacy into action—skills I will carry forward as a physician to ensure that every patient feels heard, respected, and supported in their care

Paint Night: A relaxing evening designed for mothers to connect through art.

Paint Night is a community wellness initiative that offers a relaxing and creative evening for mothers from underserved communities. Through guided painting sessions, participants can unwind, connect with others, and express themselves in a supportive, judgment-free environment. The project promotes mental well-being, self-care, and social connection, giving mothers a much-needed space to recharge and feel valued.

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Paint Night takes place over one evening and includes a guided painting session, light refreshments, and opportunities for social connection. All materials are provided, and volunteer facilitators ensure a welcoming atmosphere. The event is designed to be stress-free, lasting approximately 2–3 hours in a community space.

      Project Impact

Paint Night fosters emotional well-being and social connection for mothers from underserved communities. By providing a creative outlet and a supportive environment, the project helps reduce stress, combat isolation, and promote self-worth. Participants leave feeling refreshed, valued, and more connected to their community.

      Project Mission

Paint Night aims to support the mental health and well-being of mothers in underserved communities by providing a safe, creative, and inclusive space. The project’s goals are to promote self-expression, build community connections, and offer a moment of relaxation and joy to those who often prioritize others over themselves.
