Jasraj Hundal
Hello my name is Jasraj, I am a fourth-year BSc student at the University of British Columbia and the founder of the Punjabi Community Health Association. I am passionate about public health and community-based prevention, particularly addressing health inequities affecting Punjabi and South Asian families. Through culturally grounded education initiatives, I focus on improving cardiovascular health literacy and increasing access to preventive health knowledge in trusted community spaces. My work combines leadership, advocacy, and grassroots engagement to empower families to better understand their health and feel confident navigating the healthcare system.

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The initiative delivers four community-based cardiovascular workshops between April and August 2026 in Surrey, British Columbia. Volunteers facilitate bilingual sessions using validated blood pressure monitors and visual heart models, allowing participants to practice monitoring skills and learn about prevention in trusted community spaces.
Project Impact
The project aims to reach over 120 community members through interactive workshops that improve blood pressure literacy and preventive awareness. By increasing confidence in home monitoring and encouraging early follow-up care, the initiative addresses cardiovascular disparities and strengthens long-term community health knowledge.
Project Mission
The mission is to address the disproportionate burden of hypertension and heart disease affecting Punjabi and South Asian communities through culturally grounded, bilingual education. The initiative seeks to improve cardiovascular literacy, build confidence in preventive practices, and reduce barriers to early engagement with healthcare providers.
