Hi my name is Jason and I am a 5th year science student interested in community based leadership as well as first responders, and health education. I am always open to conversations so feel free to reach out with any questions or ideas!

UBC First Aid Support Team

UBC FAST (First Aid Support Team) is a student-led initiative dedicated to improving campus safety through timely, peer-to-peer first aid, basic harm-reduction support, and proactive health education. The team will train and deploy student responders to support peers at high-traffic campus spaces and events, working in coordination with UBC Security and campus partners. By strengthening preparedness and creating clearer pathways to care, UBC FAST aims to make UBC a safer, more supported community while also providing students with a great learning opportunity.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

UBC FAST will help train student responders, build clear on-scene protocols, and pilot event coverage if possible. The team partners with UBC Campus Security and campus stakeholders, runs outreach and skill-building workshops.

      Project Impact

UBC FAST increases campus readiness by helping with providing basic first aid and peer support at events and during security calls. It reduces barriers to seeking help, strengthens connections to appropriate services, and promotes safer decision-making through education and harm-reduction messaging. The project builds a sustainable, student-led model that supports community wellbeing.

      Project Mission

UBC FAST’s mission is to make UBC safer by empowering students to support students. The project aims to train competent responders, deliver reliable first aid presence where risk is highest, and provide clear pathways to professional care. Goals include standardizing protocols, collaborating with campus partners, and expanding prevention-focused education across campus.
