Hsiao-Ting Chiu
Passionate about environmental issues since the age of 15, Hsiao-Ting joined Montreal's urban ecological council, C-Vert, to develop concrete environmental projects. She also participated in the activities of the Écoquartier du Sud-Ouest, promoting sustainable consumption and the greening of public spaces. She has been a vector of information, responding to the environmental concerns of her fellow citizens. As a young leader, she is determined to spread her generation's ideas on environmental issues.
Sud-Ouest Vert et Responsable Environnement
Sud-Ouest Vert et Responsable aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the Sud-Ouest borough by organizing awareness-raising days on environmental issues such as composting, planting and recycling. These activities took place in public places such as the Lachine Canal, and aimed to encourage citizens to adopt more environmentally-friendly behaviours.

How the project works
Through our project, Sud-Ouest Vert et Responsable, we succeeded in increasing awareness of environmental issues by organizing bi-weekly kiosks and pop-up events over the summer and fall of 2023, where we provided relevant information on the importance of caring for the environment and provided useful gifts to use in their daily lives, like plants, reusable water bottles, reusable plates, or reusable straws. We plan to continue these activities in 2024.
Project Impact
Our mission was to make a positive contribution to the sustainability of Montreal's South-West borough. Through the project I grew as an environmental leader. Also, I witnessed the impact of my efforts through the raised awareness of hundreds of community members and the smiles on their faces at our booths.
