Hai Minh Le

Minh is in the first year of her Master's degree in Pharmacology, with a research focus on the impact of paternal exposures on children's health. Outside of the lab, she hopes to generate more sustainable communities through the power of fungi and is currently exploring the impact investing space!

MycoNurseries: Fungi for Sustainability

MycoNurseries is a non-profit organization with the aims of changing current waste management systems into a more circular economy approach to reduce the emission impact of organic waste deposited into landfill, and to empower youth into climate action through urban mushroom farming.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Within the timeframe of this grant, MycoNurseries hopes to transition towards more lean and sustainable production methods. Specifically, increasing the adoption of Foodilizer compost, plastic containers as the new "pot", and piloting spawn cultures for longer term sustainability.

      Project Impact

Since the project's start in January 2024, the team has grown over 10 kg of oyster mushrooms, diverted over 55 kg of spent coffee grounds, and provided over 480 hours of experiential learning for youth.

      Project Mission

MycoNurseries is an active non-profit organization with ongoing efforts to educate and involve youth in climate activites, specifically those that involve using fungi to address the impact of organic waste in landfills.

      Project Team

The founding team assembled in 2023 as a spinout from a Fungi-focused student club.
