Grace Gillian Louise Carruthers
My name is Grace Carruthers, and I’m a young community leader in London, Ontario dedicated to supporting people experiencing homelessness. In the past I have organized hands-on projects that provided essential supplies. I now am focusing on outreach, and connections to local services for those who need it most. I am launching an initiative to create identification cards for individuals experiencing homelessness, helping them access shelters, healthcare, and other critical supports and services and the cards will also help them get other various supports in the community that often require ID. I’m passionate about developing compassionate, practical solutions that address both immediate needs and long-term stability. Through my work, I hope to inspire others in the community to come together and make a meaningful difference.
City of Hope, City of Home Initiative
The City of Hope Identification Project, led by G.P.S. Peace, is a community-based pilot supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in London, Ontario to obtain accessible and reliable homeless identification cards. The initiative assists participants who often face unique barriers due to homelessness by providing a simplified and supportive process tailored to their needs. Through coordinated intake, identity verification, and coverage of eligible costs, the program helps reduce barriers to accessing essential services. A complementary chocolate bar initiative raises awareness, fosters community engagement, and supports the long-term sustainability of the project.
