Health and Economic Equity For Immigrant Populations Through CPR Training Food & Health

Health and Economic Equity For Immigrant Populations Through CPR Training - A recent study in the USA demonstrated that nonwhite communities experience lower rates of CPR during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This result in worse cardiac arrest outcomes. In response, our team aims to address this inequity by training newcomer youth in this key skill. By improving the rates of first-responder CPR in newcomer communities, community health inequities may improve while also improving the employability of immigrant youth.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

  • Refugees & newcomers
  • Racial or visible minorities
  • Multi-barrier populations

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

  • SDG 3: Good health and Well-being
  • SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
  • SDG 10: Reduced inequalities

How the project works

Through planning and coordination with CCLC, the team secured resources and identified key youth in piloting our immigrant youth CPR project. In August 2023, we carried out the CPR training and gathered data following the training to inform future iterations of this project.

Project Impact

Through our initiative, 10 people were trained and the community is now better prepared to handle cardiac arrest as a whole. On an individual level, it helped the participants advance in their careers since this training is required for many positions.

Project Mission

To empower newcomer youth with the skills to save lives while improving their employability through equitable access to CPR training.
