Emily Truman
I am a motivated, energetic and creative student with a passion for business, public speaking, youth leadership and community service. I am a compassionate leader who turns big ideas into real-world impact. I choose action over complacency and optimism over apathy. It brings me great joy and fulfillment to engage with my community, and drive positive change for individuals on Pelee Island, in Windsor-Essex County and beyond.
Care Packages from Pelee Project
Care Packages from Pelee will connect the seniors of Pelee Island through a service project. Islanders will get to experience the positive mental health benefits of giving back to an under-resourced community by creating care packages for unhoused persons in nearby Windsor-Essex. Pelee Island is a remote, underserved community, and it is so important to give the Pelee population the opportunity to participate in community initiatives. Involving this community in give-back initiatives will give islanders a sense of purpose and connectedness, and contribute to positive mental health outcomes.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Through the Care Packages from Pelee Project, we will give the remote Pelee Island population the opportunity to participate in a community giving event in November 2024. Islanders will have the opportunity to gather for a community event to create care packages for the unhoused population of nearby Windsor-Essex.
Project Impact
Remote, underserved, and/or underrepresented communities are often on the receiving end of social impact initiatives, but are rarely given the opportunity to actively be a part of them. Involving this community in give-back initiatives will give islanders a sense of purpose and connectedness, and contribute to positive mental health outcomes.
Project Mission
Our mission with the Care Packages from Pelee Project is to give the remote Pelee Island population - especially the island’s senior population – the opportunity to participate in a community giving event. Islanders will have the opportunity to gather for a community event to create care packages for the unhoused population of nearby Windsor-Essex.
Project Team
Our team is made up on volunteers who care deeply about Pelee Island, and its wonderful residents.
