Emilee Schevers
Emilee Schevers is a 24-year-old disability advocate with a passion for sharing her story and challenging others to break disability stereotypes. After being diagnosed with a genetic condition that has caused her to be legally blind, Emilee co-founded a social media campaign called Tru Faces to create a community for individuals with disabilities which kickstarted her interest in social change initiatives. As an Early Childhood Educator, Emilee is a natural leader and role model who is passionate about working with children with disabilities to give them the same support that she received growing up.
The Sensory Toolbox
The Sensory Toolbox is a mobile multi-sensory room in a box designed to support neurodiverse children in self-regulation and learning at any time from any where.

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The Sensory Toolbox will be implemented in Centre for Diverse Learners spaces to allow for children to participate in programming while having access to sensory items that can help them focus and develop self-regulation skills. As well, there will be an addition kit that can be loaned out so that families can have the opportunity to use these items in spaces that are not designed to meet their child’s needs.
Project Impact
To remove the existing barriers to sensory support for neurodiverse children by offering portable multi-sensory tools to meet children where they are at. Every child deserves the opportunity to regulate in the way that is individualized to their needs and makes them feel safe, calm, and ready to learn.

To provide mobile, accessible, and unique multi-sensory environments that support neurodiverse children in building self-regulation skills. Through collaboration with families, educators, and community members, we make sensory-supportive learning possible in every setting, not just specialized spaces.
