Dolly Roul

I am a young, second-generation Black Canadian woman of Afro-Caribbean descent, with roots in Martinique and Ivory Coast. I am passionate about cultural reconnection, environmental and social justice, youth and community engagement, and program coordination. It is important for me to raise awareness of the challenges Black youth face while creating spaces where they can be heard, be themselves, learn, connect with their community, and build confidence. Community work holds a special place in my heart because it allows me to respond to youth needs while bringing ideas to life that come from my own experiences with challenges, racism, and limited access to culture. My work comes from a place of understanding and commitment to empowering Black youth.

Land & Culture Connection

Land & Culture Connection is a one day retreat for Black youth to learn about themselves, culture and land through an Afrocentric lens. It is meant to foster community, connection, knowledge exchange and resilience.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

For 2 months starting September, we will brainstorm, research and connect with community partners and facilitators to bring this project to life. Then we will promote it and create a Google form for people to register. We are hoping to make it happen in mid-November or early February.

      Project Impact

Having 10 to 15 Black youth to learn about the interconnection between land and culture, and how it relates to Afro-Caribbean communities and our realities.

      Project Mission

My project’s mission is to create a safe and affirming space for Black youth to learn, explore, and connect with peers and facilitators who reflect and understand their experiences. The goal is to center Afro-Caribbean histories and knowledge, highlighting culture, heritage, and traditions from on Canadian, Migrating and International context.
