David Lingisi
I am David Lingisi, also known as Young Dave Bangin, a 27-year-old music producer, entrepreneur, and community leader from Hamilton, Ontario. I am the founder of the David Lingisi Sickle Cell Foundation, where I work to raise awareness and support youth living with sickle cell disease. Despite living with severe sickle cell anemia and frequent hospitalizations, I have remained committed to creating opportunities for others through community events, youth programs, and advocacy. I also own the streetwear brand N’arrête Jamais and use music, fashion, and philanthropy to inspire young people to pursue their dreams and overcome adversity.
Sickle Cell Awareness Giveback
My project focuses on raising awareness about sickle cell disease by distributing free sickle cell awareness merchandise to people in low-income communities. Many people are unfamiliar with the condition and the challenges patients face daily. By giving away items like shirts, hoodies, and accessories with educational messaging, the project sparks conversations and spreads knowledge about the disease. The goal is to educate communities, support individuals living with sickle cell, and reduce stigma while ensuring underserved neighborhoods receive resources and visibility around this often overlooked health issue.
About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
I will design and purchase sickle cell awareness merchandise, then distribute it through community outreach events in low-income neighborhoods. Volunteers and partners will help share educational information while giving away the items to spark conversations and increase awareness about sickle cell disease.
Project Impact
This project will increase awareness of sickle cell disease in underserved communities by educating people through conversation and visible messaging on the merchandise. By distributing free awareness items, the project will reach hundreds of individuals, encourage dialogue, reduce stigma, and help communities better understand and support those living with sickle cell disease.
Project Mission
The mission of this project is to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and educate communities that often lack access to health information. By distributing free sickle cell awareness merchandise in low-income neighborhoods, the goal is to spark conversations, increase understanding, reduce stigma, and show support for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease.
