Kinnect

Kinnect; using both the words "Connect" and "Kinesthetic" is a collective born out of the need for dancers who identify as either BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, or youth that want to deepen their connection to dance in an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment. By providing more than workshops and integrating one on one mentorship, specialized programs, resources, and more Kinnect strives to be a collective hub that educates and sees potential in youth in the dance community.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

We are looking to do a 2 day workshop and inviting a small group of youth to pilot the workshops. We will have about 4 diverse dance teachers from various dance backgrounds to teach a class in the area of their dance style and afterwards have chats with the youth on what they would like to see more of in the space. It will guide the next series of workshops that will hopefully grow into a conference style but for dance.

      Project Impact

At the center of it the youth who will be most impacted will be the ones that receive these opportunities that wouldn't necessarily be possible given that we are seeking out dancers who are trained in a specific style and will be able to have a chat session to connect with the dancers themselves after the workshop. Overall it will bring a sense of community and inclusion as it will introduce youth to dance communities that they wouldn't get those opportunities traditionally

      Project Mission

Kinnect's mission is to empower, educate, and inspire youth from marginzalized communities to offer them opportunities in deepening their relationship to dance; our goals are to provide resources and give space to highlight both dancer and teacher in a unique and untraditional way of learning not only in workshops but through mentorships, one on ones, and more to engage with dancers

      Project Team

Currently looking to solidify a few teammates but working with a graphic design artist, reaching out to secure 3 dance teachers (1 is confirmed), and confirming a photographer, videographer, and 2 volunteers to help with sign ins, snacks, and just to float
