Ching Yung Yuan
Hi, my name is Ching and I am a Master's student at Western University currently enrolled in the Global Health Systems program. I am interested in healthcare through a multifocal, intersectional lens. On an individual level, I recognize the the incredible privilege and luck I’ve had in getting an education. Having seen what it took for my family and my community to put me here, I do wonder about the social responsibilities that may come with accepting all that I’ve been gifted. Overall, I tried to stick true to my opinion that good education is broad and varied. By taking on extracurricular opportunities to learn and grow, I aspire to be a well-rounded leader in healthcare policy in the future.
Menstrual Equity for All
Menstrual Equity represents our hopes for better access to menstrual products for all. As a first step, our current focus is on reaching Muslim girls/women who are newcomers to Canada. Our concern is that this population lacks access both the products and product information as well as more specific sources of religious guidance. Our organization seeks to provide equity through facilitating access to information and access to period products in a process that is culturally inclusive and linguistically accommodating.
About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
Over the timeframe of September to December 2024 our organization will embark on menstrual product drives as well as design a dual-language period product brochure to meet the supply and information shortage.
Project Impact
On a basic level, we want to provide access to the basic period products. But more than that, we hope to provide these newcomers with the opportunity to find products that are comfortable, which we believe is a small but necessary consolation for those struggling in other areas of life (adapting to a new language, environment, etc.)
Project Mission
We believe access to sanitary and comfortable products is a part of good healthcare and should therefore be available through the community for those in need. Our goal is to provide access to menstrual products and up-to-date information as part of our efforts to contribute to better healthcare in our local community.
Project Team
We are a mixed team of university students and local volunteers from the London community
