Barbara Saldana
Barbara (she/they) is a herbalist apprentice, peer supporter, abortion doula, cultural & community worker, and the recipient of the 2024 Concordia Sustainability Champion Award. They are pursuing a BA in Women’s Studies & minors in Immigration Studies and Diversity and the Contemporary World at Concordia University. Barbara is the co-founder and lead facilitator of Plant Wisdom, an intergenerational & intra-diasporic initiative that aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and solidarity building among diasporic communities in Tio’Tia:ke / Montreal by sharing herbal medicine and food traditions. They are passionate about creating spaces that center BIPOC experiences, stories, and knowledge. Outside school, work, and projects you can find Barbara dancing salsa, hiking, or enjoying nourishing food with her friends.
Plants Guide Us
Plants Guide Us is a workshops and activities series based on plant wisdom, intergenerational and ancestral land knowledge, and community solidarity. From book club gatherings, farm days, and herbalism workshops we allow ourselves to learn from each other and nature strengthening our relationships with ourselves, communities, and the environment.

How the project works
We host different workshops, from herbal medicine making, ancestral agricultural traditions, field trips to BIPOC lead farms and art circles.
Project Impact
Provide a space for individuals who have left their ancestral lands, seeking solace and restoration from the disconnect through different workshops and land base activities.
Project Mission
Plant Wisdom is an intergenerational and intra-diasporic initiative that aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and solidarity building among Indigenous and diasporic communities in Tio’Tia:ke / Montréal through herbal medicine and food traditions.
