Anne Rachel De Rose

Rachel De Rose is a Business student at Simon Fraser University with a passion for community impact and meaningful problem-solving. She has coached public speaking for YLSBC, led a project supporting underserved students in Mission and volunteers as a project coordinator for Enactus SFU. Now, she runs Hobby Helpers to support seniors facing loneliness and isolation. Across all her work, Rachel is committed to giving a voice to individuals whose needs are often unheard through programs that foster confidence, critical thinking, and connection.

Hobby Helpers

Hobby Helpers is a community project that delivers creative, hands-on workshops for seniors. After seeing many seniors in her life struggle with depression, loneliness and the loss of loved ones, Rachel started Hobby Helpers as a way to bring joy back into their lives. Through accessible, engaging activities, Hobby Helpers supports seniors in building relationships, exploring new hobbies, and reconnecting with themselves. The goal is to reduce isolation and strengthen community well-being so every senior feels seen, supported and connected.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Hobby Helpers delivers creative, hands-on workshops for seniors, helping them discover new interests, form connections and build confidence. Each program concludes with a showcase event where participants celebrate their work and share in the community experience. Volunteers help facilitate each session, creating a supportive and welcoming community environment.

      Project Impact

Hobby Helpers successfully delivered workshops for 25+ seniors in Vancouver, BC. Over the course of the program, seniors participated in hands-on activities, built meaningful connections and found new interests. Participants were able to celebrate their progress through a concluding showcase event and gathering. Overall, Hobby Helpers strengthened community bonds, creative thinking skills and reduced social isolation among seniors.

      Project Mission

Hobby Helpers aims to foster connection and well-being among seniors by delivering accessible, engaging workshops that inspire self-expression and community-building. We aim to reduce isolation by creating welcoming spaces where seniors can explore new interests and form meaningful relationships.
