Amit Sharma
For the past two years Amit Sharma has been building the non-profit organization I co-founded called NeuTech Foundation. We aim to reduce electronics waste in the environment while donating devices to people in need. Recently we’ve launched our YouSEN initiative, Youth in Sustainable Engineering, through which we hope to educate the next generation of scientists and engineers about the importance of sustainability in STEM. I am passionate about building community resilience and believe that grassroots initiatives are the way to do it!
YouSEN & Improving Access to Technology Environment
Throughout the course of the project from June till December, we started off by running some minor workshops and STEM based events for younger students. The goal of these was for students to get a basic understanding of what STEM has to offer. Moving into September, we shifted our focus to producing a podcast that was aimed at raising awareness and providing knowledge about topics such as digital literacy, the latest news in sustainability and the fundamentals of STEM. This podcast is currently in production and we are hard at work to get episodes out to potential listeners.

How the project works
We held STEM workshops and events for young students and afterwards shifted our focus to producing a podcast to discuss STEM-related topics.
Project Impact
To preface, this project will continue even after this program is completed. Two of the biggest impacts this project had was in raising stem awareness and inspiring young students to pursue STEM careers. We were able to showcase the diversity of STEM. One of the misconceptions we wanted to resolve was that STEM isn't just about technology or software, it is so much larger than that. It has applications everywhere in our day to day lives and we need more people pursuing STEM careers to secure our future.
Project Mission
Our objective was for students to actively engage in our workshops and come away inspired to become STEM leaders. We wanted to teach the fundamentals of STEM by providing them with essential skills and insights on what it takes to excel in this field.
Project Team
We are a diverse group of UBC students passionate about inspiring future STEM leaders.
