Alice Li
From Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Alice has a passion for evidence-based policy, health equity, and community-driven solutions. Alice has previously worked with Rising Youth Grants and is grateful for this opportunity. Along with her team members, Hayden John and Chirag Chopra, the current project – “Fumble Free First-Aid”- focuses on redesigning the traditional first aid kit to make emergency response more accessible, intuitive, and effective, especially in rural communities with limited healthcare access. Alice completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan in 2022 and is currently a 3rd-year student at Queen’s Medical School in Kingston, Ontario.
Fumble Free First Aid Kit
The Fumble Free First Aid Kit (Fumble Free) is the re-imagination of traditional first aid kits to be more intuitive and easier to navigate. The project empowers both laypeople and professionals to act with reduced cognitive load with simplified tools and instructions for the kit, reducing “fumble” in dire first aid situations. By piloting the kit with Queen’s medical students and community first responders, the team is building a practical, accessible solution to strengthen emergency preparedness in areas with limited healthcare access.

Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
We will prototype Fumble-Free First Aid and pilot it at the Airbridge event with Alliance North, Queen’s medical students, and community responders on September 27, 2025. Participant feedback will guide improvements for future models and community distribution.
Project Impact
In emergency situations, especially those in rural areas, delayed medical aid can be life-threatening. The Fumble Free First-Aid kit aims to provide clear and intuitive instructions and tools, with the goal of faster, more accessible, and safer outcomes in high-stress, low-resource situations where every second matters.
Project Mission
Traditional first aid kits can be unintuitive for laypeople and non-medical professionals to navigate, especially in emergencies. Fumble-Free’s mission is to make first aid more accessible and effective in rural and fly-in communities with limited medical resources. We hope to refine the prototype using real-world emergency response feedback to reduce panic, streamline cognitive load, and boost confidence in high-stress situations.
Project Team
Our team is compromised of queen's medical students, community members, and first-aid responders.
